Kuala Lumpur (8/11/2024): A delegation from the Vice Chancellor’s Council for Private Universities (VCCPU), led by Prof. Dato’ Sr Dr. Omar Osman, visited the Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) for a meeting with CEO Mr. Novie Tajuddin and the EMGS team. The visit focused on strategies to attract more international students to study in Malaysia and identifying potential target countries for future initiatives. Discussions also covered an upcoming event organized by EMGS, in which VCCPU can participate to further strengthen the relationship between the two organizations.These productive discussions are expected to foster collaboration between VCCPU and EMGS, supporting our shared goal of establishing Malaysia as a global education hub in the future.
Selangor (6/9/2024): A delegation from the Vice Chancellors’ Council of Private Universities (VCCPU), led by the Chairman of VCCPU and Provost of Heriot-Watt University, Prof. Mushtak Al-Atabi, recently visited the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) on 6th September 2024. The delegation was received by the CEO of MQA, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohammad Shatar bin Sabran, along with the senior leadership team of MQA. The visit aimed to address and discuss various issues and concerns related to private universities in Malaysia. The matters raised were examined in detail, with the expectation that appropriate actions will be taken to enhance the quality of private higher education in Malaysia. It was a fruitful meeting.
Putrajaya (4/9/2023): A delegation representing the VCCPU Executive Board called upon YBrs. Prof. Dr. Azlinda binti Azman, the Director General of Higher Education. The VCCPU team that was led by Prof. Mushtak Al-Atabi discussed wide-ranging matters related to the Higher Education sector with the Director General and her senior team. The discussion explored pathways for mutual collaboration between the Ministry of Higher Education and VCCPU. The two sides agreed on the importance of keeping the dialogue channels open and having frequent consultative and collaborative initiatives.
Petaling Jaya (13-15/6/2023): As a nationally recognised body, the VCCPU was invited to the engagement lab organised by PEMANDU under the purview of the National Review Committee for Higher Education. VCCPU was represented by Prof Zita Mohd Fahmi and Prof Azmawani Abd Rahman. The lab focused on TVET; i. R, D, C & I; Student Development; Internationalisation; Governance; Financial Sustainability; Talent Management; Academic Excellence; and Digitisation. The Lab recommendations, that VCCPU representatives helped shape, will be presented to the Ministry of Higher Education to be used to inform the policies that will be used to transform the higher education sector.
Putrajaya (6/6/2023): The VCCPU in collaboration with Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) organised the International Students Roundtable at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia campus. The Roundtable attracted senior representatives from EMGS, Immigration, MOHE, MQA, Ministry of Tourism, the British Council and foreign embassies in Malaysia. The objective of the Roundtable was to identify challenges facing Malaysia on the pathway to realise the ambition of becoming a regional educational hub and achieving the goal of attracting 250,000 international students by 2025. Four breakout discussion groups discussed challenges, opportunities, and areas for enhancing Malaysia’s offering and brand as a higher education destination. The practical recommendations of the Roundtable will be fed to the Minister of higher education and other stakeholders.

Putrajaya (6/6/2023): The VCCPU orgainsed its 2023 Annual General Meeting at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia campus. During the meeting, the VCCPU members reflected on the work done during the previous year as well as the challenges and opportunities the higher education sector in Malaysia needs to work with over the coming period. Special focus was dedicated to enhancing the financial sustainability of the sector, the need to attract international students to Malaysia to realise the ambition of making Malaysia a regional educational hub, and also the impact of the latest development in Artificial Intelligence on education and the society in general and the role of universities in responding to that. The Council also approved the management accounts, appointed the internal auditors, and elected a new Executive Board that will lead VCCPU for the next 2 years.

The delegation was received by MQA CEO Professor Dato Dr Mohammad Shatar bin Sabran and the senior leadership team of MQA. The objective of the visit was to explore the areas of mutual interest and collaboration including the commitment to transforming Malaysia into a regional higher educational hub and encouraging innovative approaches to higher education to ensure the development of the talent and human capital necessary to meet the requirements of the nation, the region, and the world in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
